Code Blue: Tell Your Congressmen That You Want Health Care Reform Done Right!

Below, I am pasting an email from the National Association of Health Underwriters that pretty much says it all. George and I have a personal stake in opposing health care reform as it is being proposed – our folks are aging and the Government taking over Health Insurance would eliminate a major source of our income.

The NAHU raises some serious questions – and they are a non-partisan organization as well.

Dear NAHU Members,

Next week, members of Congress will return from August recess having heard from thousands of constituents about  health care reform. Most of the contention during town hall meetings centers around the role of the government and the public plan option to compete with the private sector.

NAHU needs you to continue your efforts now more than ever. This week, we are asking you to send a letter to your congressmen and let them know that it is time to get health reform right! The bills under consideration thus far are so fundamentally flawed from beginning to end that they can’t be fixed. They would cause tremendous economic harm with massive new unfunded liabilities, taxes and job-killing mandates on employers. Moreover, they would yield vast power to the federal government over virtually every aspect of our health care system. The result would be a long and likely irreversible deterioration in the quality of U.S. health care, with less innovation and more government-driven rationing of care. Urge your congressmen to pass legislation that does not expand government institutions in hopes of reaching all Americans, but instead focuses on efforts that will truly help health care become affordable and accessible for all Americans.

Supporters of the government-run option are planning a final congressional call-in campaign on September 11th. They feel that the success or failure of health reform hinges on the passage of the government-run public plan option and are betting that if they make enough noise, they can save the public plan. To ensure that their voices are not the only ones heard, we will be calling on all of our members, their clients, family and friends to pick up the phone next week and call their congressman’s offices and let them know that health reform is too important not to be done right.

Thank you for your continued support.
