Yeah – Pool Equipment, when we had the filter taken apart, the screens inside it were 2/3 destroyed with the fiberglass structure sticking out of the mesh. The pool sweep itself was about 10 years old.
The pool repairman – a friend of several years, said that he was amazed the thing even worked.
$1089 and counting (Something else is wrong this weekend)
A new client of ours came over and cut the cost of painting the downstairs in half. $650. (instead of previous bids of $1500)
There was a big nasty tree in the front yard with roots from hell – we knew this from the outset and took $21K out of the seller for it and the roof…
Someone who has taken trees out of neighbor’s yards stopped by and said he could do the job for $325. Then it will cost another $400 to grind the stump and roots after the driveway is tore up…
Versus $2100 previously bid.
The Roof – $1250, secure the tiles on the edges… silicone tiles in the water flow areas (apparently in 1987 tile roofs were never silicone sealed). This was versus $2500 previously bid.
The moral of this story is two-fold: this economy is allowing people to get some insane deals on work and home repairs still add up, no matter how much you shop.
Oh, had the ancient 1980’s ear mirrors pulled, changed the locks on the house and all the door hardware, had a new gate put in to secure the back yard, fixed the cracks in the fireplace – and re-weatherstripped the front door. $1,000.
That’s just in the last week. (Home insurance – CHEAP)
